Hi, my name is Hannah and I have been an intern at Acadia Benefits for the past two summers. As I head back to my senior year of high school, I thought it would be fun to share my experience with you.
The people I work with here are just as kind and hardworking as they were last year. I was excited to meet two great additions to the Acadia team too… Laurel Guilbert and Kim Mancini. The location is just as breathtaking as before too: the same water view and easy access to Downtown Portland. What changed the most from last year to this year, are the things I worked on. This year, I experienced more technical projects, in addition to the creative and organizational projects I worked on last year.
Like the first year, I worked with our Marketing Manager, Sara Pinto, and our Employee Advocate, Sara Closson, on various creative and helpful projects. This year, I learned more about the specifics of employee benefits from our Director of Small Business, Mariah Bowker. She also happens to be my mom! I have become more comfortable with identifying certain documents and processes and learned a lot about the language of the insurance industry. This summer I also got to experience more business interactions firsthand including attending a sales meeting, a small group meeting, a vendor meeting, and an open enrollment meeting which took place at another business.
Overall, my time at Acadia Benefits has been genuinely interesting and educational. And two things about my summers as an intern here are important to share. Not everyone gets the opportunity at 16 to learn the valuable skills and tips Acadia Benefits has given me. And I was lucky enough to experience this twice. I am grateful that I work at a place with so many wonderful people who understand the value of hard work and work-life balance. I am appreciative of Acadia’s flexibility, and community, and help preparing me for the future. This was more than something to add to my resume, this is my favorite job.
